Chapter 386
Dominic returned to his office and rested for a while.
A little after 4:00 p.m., he finished work and went to pick up Lilith.
When he reached the school gate, he made a habitual call to Katherine.
“Katherine, I’m picking Lily up today.”
Katherine paused for a moment, then smiled. “I was just about to head out.”
“That’s my fault,” Dominic said. “I’ll let you know earlier next time.”
“It’s fine,” Katherine replied. “We could even go together to pick her up sometime.”
The moment the words left her mouth, her cheeks flushed.
Dominic did not seem to notice the hint in her tone. He laughed. “Sure. Let’s do that next time.”
After hanging up, Katherine changed out of her shoes again. She sat on the sofa, her expression tinged with melancholy.
At this point, she could no longer lie to herself. She might be a little absent–minded, but she was not foolish. She did not know when it began, but Dominic had already stepped into her heart.
The feeling was entirely new to her.
When she could not see him, she missed him. When she felt bored, she longed to hear his voice. More than once, she picked up her phone and opened their chat, searching for some excuse to start a conversation. He even appeared in her dreams.
As the thought crossed her mind, a smile slowly formed at the corner of Katherine’s lips, soft and breathtaking.
In the very next second, the image of her sister surfaced, and the smile faded at once.
Although Isabella and Dominic were already divorced, Katherine knew her sister’s temperament all too well.
Isabella would never give up.
‘If that’s the case…‘ Katherine bit her lip. A trace of grievance flickered in her eyes, and only after a long moment did she let out a quiet sigh.
She knew she had fallen for Dominic, but she could not bring herself to fall out with her sister. Therefore, some feelings could only be buried deep in her heart.
Katherine sighed again, walked to the window, and watched the people moving back and forth below. Sadness lingered in her
gaze.
When Lilith saw Dominic waiting for her, she rushed over with delight and jumped into his arms.
She kissed his cheek, rolled her eyes playfully, and said, “Daddy, you work so hard.”
Dominic froze for a moment. Emotion welled up in his chest, and he smiled. “For Lily, Daddy doesn’t mind being tired at all.” The girl sighed like a tiny adult. “But I don’t want Daddy to be so tired anymore. How about you let me stay with Aunt Katherine for a while? Then you won’t have to take care of me at night, and you can rest properly.”
The smile on Dominic’s face stiffened, and the warmth in his heart scattered in an instant.
He gritted his teeth and let out a cold laugh. “Lilith Fleming, when we get home, you are doing your homework properly.”

Lilith went rigid. She looked at his expression and immediately realized that her little scheme had failed. She clamped her
mouth shut.
Dominic placed her into the passenger seat with sharp movements and continued scolding her. “You really have been spoiled by your aunt. Starting tomorrow, I’m telling her that you must finish your homework before you can touch your phone, and your screen time cannot exceed half an hour a day. You are also limited to half an hour of television…”
With each sentence, the girl’s lips pushed out a little farther.
By the end, they stuck out so much that a bottle could almost fit between them.
She said tearfully, “Daddy is the worst.”
The words hit harder than anything else.
The chill on Dominic’s face vanished at once as the softest part of his heart gave way.
Tears gathered in Lilith’s large eyes and finally spilled over as she sobbed. “Daddy is a bad guy. Daddy doesn’t love me…”
“Don’t cry, don’t cry,” Dominic said quickly. He could not keep up the act any longer and pulled out tissues to comfort her.” Alright, alright. Daddy won’t tell your aunt, okay?”
The girl pouted and sniffed, then asked in a small voice, “Then can I watch a little TV today and do my homework after dinner?”
