Unexpectedly, Katherine had taken dozens of photos in secret. In every one of them, Lilith and Dominic beamed with unguarded joy.
Not a single photo included Isabella.
Katherine, however, appeared again and again. In some shots, she took selfies while Dominic held Lilith nearby. From certain angles, all three shared the same frame, creating the illusion of a happy family of three.
At the sight, a faint tremor ran through Dominic’s chest.
As he turned the pages, he realized the album had been in the making for quite some time.
He held it for a long while with a subtle smile.
He was only human. He had restrained himself for a long time. Around Jessica in particular, he had struggled more than once to keep his impulses in check. Yet he knew what he truly wanted: a simple, steady life. A little excitement might be tempting, but it could never last. They were not right for each
other.
Over time, he and Katherine had formed a quiet, unspoken bond through shared moments and mutual understanding. Now, with the album in his hands, his certainty deepened. Katherine was the right choice.
The real question was how to deal with Isabella, her father, and Oliver.
Oliver did not concern him. If necessary, Dominic could handle him again.
Isabella and her father presented a more delicate problem.
Dominic sat in silence and considered his options.
Once his emotions settled, he admitted that Katherine had made the right call by keeping Isabella in the
dark, at least for now.
If Isabella had walked in and witnessed that scene, there was no telling how she would have reacted. In the worst case, with all three of them in the same room, someone could have ended up seriously hurt. It would have been impossible to predict who.
He let out a quiet sigh.
Isabella glanced around as she spoke. “Hm. I thought I heard something.”
“There’s nothing. You must have imagined it.” Katherine felt her heart skip, but she kept her tone steady. By the way, what did you come back for?”
They sat side by side on the sofa.

Isabella frowned. “Your brother–in–law came back to Skyline City, dropped me at the office, then disappeared. I didn’t feel like working, so I came home. But I saw his car outside. Didn’t you see him?”
The word brother–in–law grated on Katherine. She forced a smile. “Dominic stopped by earlier, but he left right away.”
“What? Where did he go?” Isabella asked.
Katherine shook her head. “I’m not sure. Didn’t you call him?”
“Oh, right.” Isabella reached for her phone.
Katherine’s eyes flickered. If the phone rang in the other room, everything would unravel. She quickly pressed Isabella’s hand down. “You’d better not call him now.”
Isabella blinked. “Why not?”
Katherine’s pulse raced, but her expression remained composed. “He’s already upset with you. If you keep calling, you might only push him further away.”
“That makes sense.” Isabella nodded, though a mischievous gleam lit her eyes.
She waved her hands as she spoke. “Kathy, I’m telling you, I can feel it. My relationship with Dominic is getting better. It won’t be long before we remarry.”
Katherine stared at her, stunned. “Remarry?”
