Isabella had not expected him to defend that woman. Her expression faltered. “Honey, I’m doing this for your own good.”
Dominic pulled up in front of Blossom Elementary and parked the car. “But you never stopped to consider that I don’t need you doing things for my own good anymore.”
After a brief pause, his face hardened. “Do you want to hear the truth?”
Isabella bit her lip. “Go ahead.”
He let out a cold laugh. “In my heart, between you and Jewel, I would rather believe Jewel.”
Her eyes widened. She had not expected him to say something so cruel.
Tears welled up. She reached for his arm, her voice trembling. “Honey…”
His expression did not change. He shrugged off her hand. “I don’t know what gave you the illusion that you have the right to interfere in my affairs. Let me make this clear. From now on, my business has nothing to do with you.”
In that instant, Isabella felt the full force of his ruthlessness.
Pain pierced her chest and left her breathless. Tears streamed down her face as she whispered, “I wasn’t interfering. I just wanted to be good to you.”
“Even if you are, it’s useless. I’ll say it again. Between you and Jewel, I would choose her. If you weren’t Lily’s mother, I wouldn’t even spare you a word.” His tone remained calm, but his words cut without mercy.
Isabella’s lips trembled. The color drained from her face. “Honey, please don’t say that. I’m begging you.”
Dominic did not respond. He stepped out of the car and walked to the school entrance to wait.
His posture appeared steady, yet his gaze drifted back toward the car, betraying a flicker of conflict.
During the days he had been detained, Isabella had conducted herself without fault.
Now that his relationship with Katherine had moved forward, he needed Isabella to let go completely.
It would not be easy.
He told himself he had no other choice.
Isabella remained in the car for a long time. She drew slow breaths, trying to piece her shattered heart back together, then finally stepped out and joined him.
She forced a fragile smile, almost pleading.
A car screeched to a stop in front of them.
Before it came to a full halt, the back door flew open and a thin figure stumbled out.
She tried to stand, but her legs buckled, She clung to the door for support, her eyes fixed on Dominic in panic.
His heart jolted when he saw her. He hurried forward and caught her before she could fall. “Yara, why are you here?”
She wore a hospital gown. It was Yara.
At that moment, Brian climbed out of the driver’s seat, jaw tight. “Mr. Fleming, something’s happened. Max has been taken.”

At the sight of Dominic, Yara seemed to find her anchor. She threw herself into his arms, tears pouring down her face. “M–Mr. Fleming… Max… was taken. Can you… please… save him?”
Dominic’s expression shifted. He stroked her back in reassurance and asked in a low voice, “What happened? Take your time
and tell me.”
Isabella hurried over, anger rising to her lips, but when she saw the young woman’s fragile state, she held her tongue.
