Dominic felt a strange sensation when he heard those words. Anyone could have said them, yet hearing them from Isabella sounded oddly out of place.

Isabella spoke again. “Let’s go. It’s already late. We should head upstairs and rest.”

As she spoke, she reached for his arm and tried to pull him inside.

Dominic paused to think, then did not refuse. Once they were upstairs, he said, “You and Lily can sleep together. I’ll take a room

by myself.”

Isabella did not seem surprised. She let out a small sigh. “Fine, that works. Just don’t overthink things.”

Dominic ignored her and went into a guest room.

Night fell.

Katherine sat alone on the bed. She curled up, hugging her knees, and in the quiet, the sadness on her face surfaced fully.

Her gaze lingered on the bedsheets as she sat in silence. They had already been changed and lay clean and undisturbed. Every trace of the previous night had vanished.

Yet in Katherine’s mind, the memory of the two of them clinging to each other on that very bed kept replaying. It only made her feel worse.

A sudden knock broke the silence.

Katherine came back to herself and asked, “Who is it?”

“Sis, it’s me,” Isabella called from outside.

Katherine bit her lip. “Come in. The door isn’t locked.”

Isabella pushed the door open and walked in. She sat on the bed and stared at Katherine for a long moment without speaking.

Katherine frowned, her tone turning sharp. “What are you looking at?”

“I’m looking at what my husband likes about you,” Isabella said, her voice serious.

Katherine let out a cold laugh. “So you’re worried Dominic will sneak over here, and you came to catch us in the act?”

“Catch you in the act. That’s exactly it,” Isabella replied. “Sis, you know he’s my husband. I’m his lawful wife. You shouldn’t have those kinds of feelings for him. I thought something was off before, and you even told me to give up. So this was your plan all along?”

Katherine said nothing. A heavy, suffocating sense of grievance pressed against her chest.

Silence settled over the room.

Isabella suddenly smiled. “But this mistake might actually be a good thing. For Lily, for me, and even for you… You and your brother–in–law were never meant to be together. Now that it’s been cut off completely, this is the best outcome. Don’t you so, sis?”
