She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 1041

"Tell me he isn't out of line. Is he or is he not completely out of line?!"

She glared fiercely, downing her glass in one go.

Daphne, sitting right beside her, immediately refilled the glass.

The 'drink' she poured was a special mocktail she had asked her bartender to whip up.

A complex fruit juice mix that tasted exactly like a real cocktail.

She was worried Melanie would wreck her body by drinking too much.

It was painfully obvious she was spiraling over a guy and trying to drown her sorrows.

Swapping out the alcohol was Daphne's way of looking out for her.

"Honestly, I think... it's not that crazy? His ex was getting beaten up. Anyone with a conscience would've stepped in to help."

Daphne offered reasonably.

"Is that the issue here? The issue is the blatant double standard! He gets to be all tangled up with his ex, but the second I dance with a client, he throws a massive fit! Where does he get off?!"

"Uh..."

Daphne's lips twitched.

From where she sat, they were clearly just violently jealous over each other.

"If you both care this much, it means you're obviously still in love!"

"What did you say?"

Under Melanie's lethal glare, Daphne shrank back.

She was drowning in jealousy but absolutely refused to admit it.

It was glaringly obvious they were crazy about each other.

Yet, for some ridiculous reason, they stubbornly refused to just get back together.

Daphne was entirely convinced the main roadblock was sitting right next to her.

Melanie pouted, continuing to chug her 'drink.'

Seriously, what was wrong with this alcohol? She had downed so much but didn't feel a buzz at all.

She stared suspiciously at her empty glass.

"Just vent it out here today, and go make up with him tomorrow."

"Who's making up with him? I fired him!"

Daphne's jaw dropped at the absolute certainty in her voice.

Daphne's words hit close to home, suddenly making her think of her own situation with Everett.

Their dynamic was the exact opposite.

She loved Everett far more than he loved her.

And because of that, she lived in a constant state of agonizing anxiety.

"Ugh."

Daphne rested her chin on her hand, letting out a heavy sigh.

"Why the sigh? Are things rocky with Everett?"

"Not exactly."

Daphne waved it off.

It wasn't that things were bad.

They texted every single day.

But she was always the one who initiated.

They grabbed dinner whenever they were both free.
