"Melanie!"
Leila screamed so hard her vocal cords tore.
Sitting directly across from her, Melanie Royce's lips curled into a cold, detached smile.
Leila looked absolutely furious.
Her bloodshot eyes bulged, her features twisting into something so vicious she looked ready to devour the other woman alive.
Yet, the more intense Leila's reaction grew, the more amusing Melanie found it.
"You bitch! I knew you were the one who ruined me!"
Leila was utterly hysterical.
"That's right, it was me."
Melanie nodded with a calm, unbothered smile.
Leila froze, completely caught off guard by the effortless admission.
"You're going to rot in hell! I'll rip you apart piece by piece..."
While Leila spewed her venomous curses, Melanie rose gracefully from her seat and stepped right in front of her.
Slap!
Melanie raised her hand and struck Leila hard across the cheek.
The impact snapped Leila's head to the side, leaving her dazed for a few seconds before reality registered.
"You hit me?"
Before the words fully left her mouth, another slap cracked across her face.
"You had the nerve to drug me. What makes you think I wouldn't have the nerve to hit you?"
Melanie delivered the line with breezy indifference, but the guilt and sheer panic were instantaneous on Leila's features.
"Who... who drugged you?"
"It doesn't matter if you confess or not. You've already paid the price."
As she spoke, Melanie held up her late mother's possession—the DNA Double Helix Keychain—dangling it right in front of Leila's eyes.
