Melanie arched an eyebrow, a cold smirk playing on her lips.
"Oh? Let's hear it, then. Who manipulated you?"
"Aria Royce."
Leila answered without a second of hesitation.
Melanie's long lashes fluttered upward.
Aria was her accomplice—
She shouldn't be surprised.
That perfectly explained why the drug she had been slipped was far more potent than standard sedatives.
It seemed Aria had personally formulated the concoction.
In all likelihood, it was synthesized exclusively to target her.
Melanie lowered her gaze, her expression turning somber.
"I swear I'm not lying, it really was Aria."
Seeing the prolonged silence, Leila panicked, desperate to be believed.
"Aria was the one who called me, and she supplied the drug. She was at the hotel that night, tracking your movements. The second she saw you get into the elevator, she gave me the signal to bring President Warren up."
Armed with her confession, Melanie simply turned on her heel and started walking away.
"Hey, Melanie! Don't just leave me here! Where are you going? I'm still tied up! Get back here!"
The frantic screams grew fainter with every step Melanie took.
She had the answer she needed.
As for Leila...
She wasn't her problem anymore.
This semi-abandoned factory near the docks saw occasional foot traffic during the day.
Leila wouldn't die out here, but she was definitely in for a rough night.
Even though Aria was the mastermind, Leila was the one who gleefully executed the plan.
Melanie knew full well that her captive hadn't been an unwilling pawn at all.
