Daphne hadn't smiled once during the entire journey here.
Melanie knew exactly what was going on; the breakup was incredibly fresh, and since Daphne was the one who had been discarded, bouncing back immediately was impossible.
Despite her tough, outgoing exterior, Daphne actually had an incredibly fragile heart.
Getting her to fully immerse herself in the vacation and actually enjoy the moment was going to take some time.
But Melanie wasn't in a rush.
She was confident in her plan.
Out of all the beautiful tourist destinations in the world, she had specifically chosen Emberton.
Because Emberton was home to the man Daphne obsessed over.
Melanie firmly believed that laying eyes on her idol would be the ultimate mood booster.
"Melanie, are you absolutely sure you want to sit through a basketball game for me?"
Seeing the genuine concern in Daphne's eyes, Melanie nodded emphatically.
"Of course! Why would I lie about that?"
"But... I remember you saying you couldn't care less about sports."
Daphne wasn't wrong. Melanie genuinely despised watching basketball.
"If you're only doing this to keep me company, you really don't have to. I can go by myself."
"Daph, since when are you so formal with me? I said I'm going with you, so I'm going."
Melanie looped her arm affectionately through her best friend's.
"I might not care about the game, but professional athletes are usually gorgeous! I can just sit back and admire the view, right?"
She beamed as she said it, only to immediately hear Philip let out two very forced, very loud coughs from behind them.
Daphne, oblivious to Philip's true identity, assumed he was just a regular luxury concierge.
She didn't know he was Preston Whitmore's executive assistant.
Melanie, however, knew exactly what that throat-clearing meant.
She was willing to bet her life that Philip was secretly taking notes on her every move, preparing to deliver a highly detailed espionage report back to Preston.
