She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 118

If Dominic hadn't been holding the gift box, Melanie might not have been so wary.

But the sight of it gave her a sinking feeling.

Judging by the size of the box, it probably contained clothing.

“Melanie, this is for you.”

Dominic smiled as he held out the box.

Melanie didn't take it.

Dominic's hand hung awkwardly in the air for a moment before he placed the box on her desk.

Melanie casually opened it and glanced inside. It was a black formal dress.

“Why are you giving me this?”

“Because I’m taking you to a special occasion tonight.”

Hearing Dominic’s words, Melanie thought to herself:

Of course.

“What kind of occasion?”

Could she refuse to go?

“It’s the sixtieth-anniversary celebration for the Novarison Pharmaceuticals Plant. Our company was invited as a partner… You’re the project manager, so I thought I’d take you with me.”

Dominic’s reasoning made it difficult for Melanie to refuse.

“Alright, then. Let me get changed.”

“Can I stay here?”

Dominic’s casual remark made Melanie’s mind go blank.

Dominic was her husband.

Technically, she had no reason to ask him to leave.

However…

Melanie’s face turned pale, and goosebumps erupted over her skin.

There was a time when she had desperately longed for Dominic to touch her.

Although he had never made a move, she had assumed he had some unspoken issue in that department.

She had been puzzled and disappointed, but she had never blamed him or wanted to pressure him.

But now, she was so grateful that Dominic had kept himself “pure” for Evelyn.

Otherwise, she would feel as if she had been tainted by something filthy.

“What’s wrong?”

Dominic noticed that Melanie’s expression had soured.

He hadn't meant anything by his suggestion to stay.

They were husband and wife.

He just vaguely sensed a tiny flicker of disappointment within him for not getting to see her body.

However, he refused to acknowledge that disappointment.

He didn't even like Melanie. And he wasn't some kind of pervert.

Seeing Dominic lost in thought, Melanie remained silent.

She looked at her reflection in the full-length mirror.

She looked elegantly beautiful.

A black evening gown naturally exuded an air of sophistication and formality. The one Dominic had given her was also quite conservative, a classic, standard off-the-shoulder design.

Melanie was actually quite surprised that Dominic had chosen such a dress for her.

In the past, his choices for gowns were always over-the-top, the epitome of extravagance.

Given how important the partnership with Novarison Pharmaceuticals Plant was to him, Melanie had expected him to give her a dramatic, eye-catching gown.

Unexpectedly, this black dress didn't have a single sequin or piece of glitter on it.

Melanie was still puzzled as she left the office with Dominic.

But soon, the reason became clear.

“Dominic, Melanie, you two certainly kept me waiting!”

Beside Dominic’s black Maybach stood Evelyn, shining as brightly as a thousand-watt lightbulb.
