That face was undeniably handsome.
However, it was also incredibly cold.
He possessed an icy demeanor that radiated a chilling aura.
Those dark, abyssal eyes looked capable of killing someone with a mere glance.
As she continued chatting with Elias, the door to Melanie's office was pushed open.
Preston walked in.
"Speak of the devil."
Melanie's soft murmur made Preston raise an eyebrow slightly.
"What are you talking about?"
"I was just talking about you with Elias!"
Melanie replied casually before saying goodbye to Elias and hanging up the phone.
"Talking about me? What exactly?"
Preston asked, his curiosity piqued.
Melanie answered nonchalantly.
"Just talking about whether you'd actually murder someone... Haha!"
Melanie laughed brightly, but she saw Preston's face instantly drain of color.
Huh?
Melanie froze.
She rubbed her eyes and looked closer, but Preston's complexion seemed perfectly normal.
The heart that had leaped into her throat slowly settled back into her chest.
It seemed she had just imagined it.
Talking about murder was obviously just a joke, no matter how you sliced it.
Preston shouldn't have had such a strong reaction.
In that fleeting moment she had seemingly misread, it was as if Preston had actually killed someone and her words had struck a nerve.
She must have imagined it.
Just as Melanie brushed off the thought, Preston placed the documents he was holding onto her desk.
Her gaze inadvertently fell to his hands.
They were, as always, covered by pristine white gloves.
For some reason, a wave of unease washed over Melanie.
She unconsciously rubbed her chest.
"What's wrong?"
Preston broke the silence, his voice magnetic and incredibly gentle.
"...It's nothing..."
