She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 195

He was certain that when he brought it up today, Melanie would be moved to tears with gratitude and happily agree.

“I can’t this week.”

Melanie declined with a smile.

Dominic’s grin froze on his face.

He felt she was being a little ungrateful.

“Why not? Aren’t we trying to build up the ‘devoted husband’ image right now?”

“We are, but there’s a seminar this Sunday that I need to prepare for.”

Dominic was also supposed to attend the Sunday seminar.

But he wasn't in charge of R&D; that was Adrian Mercer's team's job. He was mainly just bringing Melanie along for the ride.

“So we can go to the amusement park on Saturday!” Dominic suggested, only to see Melanie shake her head again.

“The R&D at Adrian Mercer’s studio has hit a snag, and they need some data from our side that I haven’t finished organizing yet. And also...”

“And also?”

Dominic saw a flicker of a helpless, wry smile on Melanie’s face.

“And also, you haven’t spent time with Lila in a long while.”

Dominic was quite taken aback to hear Melanie bring up Lila on her own.

“I saw a video about amusement park ticket packages on Evelyn’s phone today. I imagine she wants to take Lila there.”

As Melanie spoke, Dominic lowered his head slightly, feeling a pang of guilt.

“Even though Evelyn has gone after me a few times, Lila is innocent. And no matter what, Evelyn and Lila are Everett Kingsley’s widow and child. As a close family friend, you really should take good care of them, for both emotional and logical reasons.”

“Since you mentioned the amusement park, and Lila hasn’t had a chance to relax in a while, why don’t you take Evelyn and Lila there this Saturday?”

Dominic never expected Melanie to be so understanding. He had been worried she had sensed something was wrong, but here she was, willingly handing him over to Evelyn and Lila.

He was well aware that he had been neglecting his real family lately.

“Since you put it that way...”

A smile of both relief and gratitude spread across Dominic’s face.

With a considerate wife like Melanie, his true love Evelyn, and his daughter Lila, Dominic felt like he was the luckiest man in the world.

Melanie rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on.

What should she do?

Think of an alternative method?

Or...

As dusk fell and the city lights twinkled on, the metropolis took on a new face to welcome the evening rush of commuters.

Preston had a meeting and got home very late.

The living room was brightly lit. Melanie was sprawled on the sofa, seemingly asleep.

But she was restless, her brow furrowed and her cheeks slightly flushed.

The coffee table was a mess, covered with papers scribbled with complex formulas.

Preston had straightened up Melanie's papers for her while she was asleep before, but this time he had a gut feeling—he couldn't touch these calculations.

He tiptoed over to Melanie’s side and leaned down.
