"Dominic is so thoughtful."
Melanie watched as Nathaniel immediately put the ebony bead bracelet from Dominic on his wrist.
As for what she had given him, her father didn't even look.
Melanie had actually told Dominic about the early Father's Day dinner at her family's home. He was even planning to postpone a meeting to accompany her.
But then Evelyn suddenly claimed Lila was sick and that she, as a woman alone, was afraid she couldn't take care of her properly. She insisted that Dominic drive Lila to the hospital.
And just like that, Melanie had to come alone.
Melanie knew perfectly well that Evelyn had done it on purpose.
She wanted her to return to her family home alone, to be ridiculed by them.
"Melanie, why are you and Dominic giving gifts separately? It seems so distant!" Aria mentioned casually from the side.
As expected, Nathaniel's expression changed.
Sabrina immediately chimed in, "Could it be that you two had a fight? Melanie, Dominic is so good to you. Don't take him for granted, and you certainly shouldn't betray him for those shady men at the clubs."
The topic hadn't even touched on clubs or men, but Sabrina deliberately brought it up.
"It's not your place to lecture me."
Just as Melanie finished speaking, Aria suddenly spoke in a soft, gentle voice, "You're so much more worldly, Melanie. At Cyranth University, all I do is go to class or work in the lab. I still don't even know what a club looks like!"
"See, that's your problem, Aria. You're too naive. You need to learn from Melanie, get out there and experience the world."
"Learn what from her?!" Before Sabrina could finish, Nathaniel roared, "Learn how to get entangled with boy toys? She'll only be a bad influence on Aria!"
"Now, now, dear, don't be angry... It's my fault for bringing it up. Here, let's talk about something happy."
Ever since Aria had entered their home, her father had constantly compared her to Aria.
Every time, it was the same old speech. She was so tired of hearing it that she couldn't be bothered to argue anymore.
Seeing Melanie's silence, Nathaniel just glared at her, a standoff forming between father and daughter.
Sabrina's eyes darted around slyly.
"Aria, your father knows you're a filial and obedient daughter. That's why he has something special for you, now that you've taken the time to come back."
Seeing that Nathaniel hadn't brought it up, Sabrina had to steer the conversation herself.
"What is it, Dad?" Aria asked, blinking her wide, innocent eyes at Nathaniel.
In truth, she already knew what Nathaniel was going to give her.
