Melanie's calm and composed question left Riley speechless.
It was only then that the audience realized Riley had just exposed himself.
“So the cheater was Riley all along!”
“He must have bribed the judges, or how else would he know that pharmacology genius was the one who wrote the questions?”
The crowd's accusations suddenly turned on him, and Riley panicked.
He had indeed cheated.
He had no way to defend himself, so he could only keep insisting that Melanie had cheated.
“That's enough!”
Suddenly, an elderly man among the judges stood up.
“I can’t watch this anymore!”
He glared coldly at Riley, pointing an indignant finger at him.
“These twenty questions weren't written by us at all! Riley found someone outside to write them. In other words, he knew the questions before the competition started. And when he still lost, he had the audacity to sling mud at his opponent. How shameless!”
After berating Riley, the judge kicked his chair back and stormed off.
The other judges looked at each other, their faces showing their utter disappointment in Riley, and they too shook their heads and left one by one.
The entire exhibition hall exploded.
Everyone started shouting insults and pointing fingers at Riley.
Only Melanie remained silent.
In fact, the judges themselves had agreed to use the questions provided by Riley. They had tacitly approved it, which meant they bore some responsibility and had essentially helped Riley cheat.
Now they had all run off, leaving Riley alone as the target.
But Melanie couldn't be bothered to pursue the judges' responsibility. It was far more interesting to watch Riley get hoist by his own petard.
Although Riley was holding a microphone, his voice was completely drowned out by the roar of the crowd.
The host quickly took the opportunity to announce that Melanie was the winner of the Scientific Challenge.
