But her intuition told her the same was not true for him.
From the moment she entered the hall, she had felt all sorts of gazes on her from every direction.
Among them, the most scorching and sharp was the one from Bryant, the deputy director of the Aldoria Biological Data Center.
Even without making eye contact, Melanie could feel Bryant's hostility.
Bryant had handsome, well-defined features. He wasn't drop-dead gorgeous at first glance, but he was pleasant to look at and had the refined, scholarly air of an official.
He was also easy to read.
Or perhaps, Bryant had no intention of hiding it.
He was openly expressing his disdain for Melanie.
Originally, when Hazel had mentioned this project, Melanie had been somewhat interested.
So when she discovered this masquerade ball was the promotional event for Project NovaGate, she had thought it would be a good opportunity to chat with the project's head.
But now, seeing Bryant's attitude toward her, Melanie decided she wasn't about to offer a warm welcome only to be met with a cold shoulder.
Melanie, who had been walking straight toward Bryant, simply smiled and walked right past him.
"Ms. Royce… no, Mrs. Hale…"
Bryant called out, stopping her.
Melanie turned, her eyes reflecting Bryant's stern face.
"Mr. Lennox, you know me?"
"I more than know you… I also know you use your position as Evelyn’s brother’s wife to steal projects from Evelyn. Evelyn is a dear friend of mine from school. As long as I'm here, you won't be bullying her again!"
Bryant put on an air of authority, his voice harsh.
Melanie never would have expected that Bryant would call out to her just to make a threat on Evelyn's behalf.
She chuckled.
"Mr. Lennox, you're meeting me for the first time today, yet you speak as if you know me so well."
