Centered around Bryant, the others were all uniformly dressed in white lab coats, each exuding the scholarly refinement and intelligence of a researcher.
Melanie was so intimidated by the reception that she hesitated to move forward.
Was Bryant having the entire center’s research staff come out to welcome her?
“Ms. Royce!”
Seeing Melanie arrive, Bryant hurried forward, his eyes lighting up with unmistakable excitement.
“You can just call me Melanie.”
Although Melanie didn't consider herself friends with Bryant, they had become much more familiar after their interactions. Calling each other “Mr.” and “Ms.” seemed a bit distant and artificial.
“Okay, then you can just call me Bryant, Melanie…”
Bryant said her name softly, his cheeks flushing slightly.
Melanie just smiled without saying anything.
*Hearing him use her first name so easily… it didn't exactly feel like they were on equal footing yet.*
Bryant had been waiting for Melanie to call him by his first name, but she simply smiled and said nothing.
Bryant felt a pang of disappointment but quickly composed himself.
“Melanie, look, these are all the researchers from our center,” Bryant said, gesturing with his hand.
Melanie noticed that every researcher was staring at her with obvious admiration and expectation, as if she were a visiting dignitary or an expert on inspection.
“Bryant…”
Melanie lowered her voice and whispered close to his ear, “I’m just here to help you. I wasn’t even on the list of participants for this project…”
Melanie felt that all this fanfare was far too high-profile.
But Bryant just blinked blankly.
“You don’t know yet?”
Inside the incubator building.
Evelyn and Lila had been waiting backstage for a long time.
Although Bryant hadn't notified her in advance, she didn’t find it strange since it had already been decided. She simply assumed it was an unspoken understanding between her and Bryant.
Lila was dressed very fashionably today.
To use her role as the Project NovaGate ambassador as a stepping stone to stardom, Evelyn had dressed Lila in a tight, form-fitting black dress covered in sequins and had given her a cool makeup look.
She looked just like a child model.
Not only was Evelyn pleased with the outfit, but Lila herself loved it too.
She wore princess dresses all the time and was tired of them.
She had picked this black sequined dress herself, and she was determined to stun the entire audience!
With this shared goal, Lila and Evelyn waited and waited for the host to call Lila’s name. They waited until their legs were sore.
