“And why can’t it be?”
Melanie’s voice, laced with amusement, came through the phone. Evelyn, already furious, felt like she was about to explode.
“I’m trying to reach the project lead for the Project NovaGate brand ambassador! What are you doing answering the phone? This has nothing to do with you!”
After roaring into the receiver, Evelyn heard Melanie’s contemptuous laugh again.
She was clearly mocking her.
Suddenly, she realized something.
“No… that’s impossible… It can't be…”
Evelyn shook her head repeatedly while still on the phone.
In truth, a seed of dread had been planted in her heart the moment she heard Melanie’s voice on the other end.
But she refused to admit it.
She couldn’t admit it.
Project NovaGate was supposed to be her mentor’s project, and she was the liaison for the Hale Health Center’s partnership.
None of this was supposed to have anything to do with Melanie.
So why?
Why had Melanie suddenly become the project lead for the brand ambassador selection?!
Evelyn felt like her head was going to split open.
She decisively hung up the phone.
If Melanie was on the other end, there was no point in saying anything more.
Evelyn tried calling Bryant again, but the call didn't go through.
In the private room at HelioStar Suites, Dominic Hale was eagerly waiting for Evelyn to arrive with Lila, expecting her to make a grand entrance as the brand ambassador at the launch ceremony.
But when he happened to turn his head, he saw Evelyn and Lila had arrived.
Both of them looked utterly defeated.
Lila was in an even worse state; her eyes were swollen from crying, and her face was a tear-streaked mess of ruined makeup.
