She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 256

He had gotten up after vaguely hearing a noise from the private room next door.

His own room, meant for eight people, was occupied by him alone.

It was too spacious, too quiet, which made the sounds from outside piercingly clear.

Melanie and Bryant had already finished their meal.

It was getting late, and Melanie still had data to analyze when she got home, so she couldn't afford to waste any more time with Bryant.

"You'll let me drive you home this time, right?"

Bryant asked with sincerity, but Melanie still shook her head.

"You've been drinking, so you can't drive. Besides, I've already called for a car service."

A look of disappointment crossed Bryant's face when he heard her.

"Melanie, I want you to know, I really admire you. I respect you a lot, so... I hope you can see me as a friend and not feel like you have to be so formal with me."

As Bryant spoke, he reached out, intending to pat Melanie's shoulder.

Just a pat on the shoulder couldn't be considered taking advantage of her.

However, before his hand could land on her shoulder, his wrist was suddenly seized from the side.

Just as Bryant saw Preston, so did Melanie.

"You again..."

Bryant's sharp brows furrowed tightly.

Preston's deep eyes, however, only reflected Melanie.

He spoke only to her.

"What a coincidence..."

Melanie glanced at the adjacent private room.

Preston must have come from there.

Melanie tilted her head, unable to stop herself from wondering.

Could Preston be here for a work dinner with his colleagues too?

But the room next door was quieter than she'd imagined, as if it were completely empty.

"Mr. Whitmore, you're always lurking around. Anyone who didn't know better would think you were Melanie's stalker!" Bryant said deliberately.

He hoped Preston would back off, that he'd retreat to save face and stop pestering Melanie.

But Preston merely shot Bryant a glance and retorted coldly, "And what if I am her stalker? Is that any of your business, Mr. Lennox?"

Bryant's mouth opened, but he was at a loss for words.
