“Samuel can prove it.”
“Those two are in it together!”
“If we hadn’t listened to you, why would our two companies have suddenly dropped our prices for no reason, even selling below cost? It turns out the pricing you leaked to us was fake! Evelyn, I’m going to kill you today!”
Leonard shouted, lunging at Evelyn like a wild animal.
Evelyn immediately ducked behind Dominic, clutching his suit jacket and refusing to let go.
“Dominic, save me! Help me…”
Ultimately, Leonard was thrown out by security, and a temporary calm returned to the company.
Inside the CEO’s office.
Dominic sat in his executive chair while Evelyn stood before his desk with her head lowered, like a child being punished.
The tension in the room was so thick you could cut it with a knife.
“What Leonard said… is it true?”
“Dominic…”
“I asked you if it’s true!”
Dominic shot up from his chair.
“I… It’s not…”
Evelyn was terrified by Dominic’s intimidating presence.
She could have lied.
She could have denied everything.
But…
She was too scared.
Her conscience was eating her alive.
She felt that even if she lied to get through this moment, the truth would eventually come out.
“I…”
With tears welling in her eyes, Evelyn’s voice trembled as she spoke.
“I… I didn’t do it on purpose…”
*Smack!*
Dominic raised his hand and slapped Evelyn across the face.
Evelyn was stunned by the blow.
Her cheek exploded in a white-hot sting, the force of the blow sending her reeling. A dull ringing filled her ears, drowning out the sudden, suffocating silence of the office.
“The Crowell Group and Quanterra are out of the picture. Get ready to move on the acquisition.”
“You’re a miracle worker. Is this your gift to me? You’re being way too good to me… Don’t tell me…”
Elias’s voice suddenly grew softer through the receiver.
“You don’t have a crush on me, do you?”
Melanie nearly ripped the important document in her hands.
“Elias, are you already needing brain supplements at your age? Should I develop a new plasmalogen for you?”
“Yes!”
Elias agreed instantly.
“A new plasmalogen product. It’s a deal!”
Before Melanie could even open her mouth to object, Elias had already hung up.
Melanie pouted.
She couldn’t help but feel like she had just walked right into one of Elias’s traps.
“Ms. Royce, are you dissatisfied with this version of the divorce agreement as well?”
Turning toward the voice, Melanie saw Ms. Crestfall walking over.
