A sudden silence fell over the dinner table.
Everyone’s gaze shifted to Melanie.
Melanie calmly brushed her hair back, looked at Dominic, and explained, “Evelyn is also part of our Hale Group. We can’t say she had zero contribution to the successful launch of the new anti-cancer drug.”
Then, she turned to Gregory.
“No matter what, Evelyn is Lila’s birth mother and my husband’s sister.”
“The company going public is a major and joyous event. Everyone should be there to celebrate together.”
“Besides… we’re going to announce our adoption of Lila at the party. As Lila’s birth mother, if we have her blessing, it will prevent gossip from outsiders later on.”
“So, for both personal and practical reasons, Evelyn should attend the celebration party.”
“And with Evelyn there, Lila will be happier too, right, Lila?”
As Melanie spoke, she gently stroked Lila’s head.
Lila had two lollipops in her mouth, both from Melanie. And Melanie had even suggested that her mother stay with her.
Lila couldn’t help but grin at Melanie.
“Yeah, I think Auntie is right.”
Melanie shifted her gaze back to Dominic.
“Then it’s settled, darling. It won’t be too late to send Evelyn off after she attends our company’s IPO celebration.”
Listening to Melanie’s sincere words, a warmth spread through Dominic’s chest.
“Honey, you’re always so thoughtful.”
Dominic patted Melanie’s shoulder.
Melanie was truly his supportive wife—sensible, considerate, and brilliant.
And unlike Evelyn, she wasn’t always so petty and jealous.
Dominic realized he had indeed neglected Melanie too much in the past.
He had always thought of Melanie as just a pretty face who fooled around with models.
However…
He realized he’d been so focused on a pebble that he’d overlooked the crown jewel right in front of him.
