She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 371

"If you were going to sit down whether I minded or not, why even ask? Seems a bit pointless, doesn't it?"

"Or maybe I just wanted an excuse to talk to you," Preston Whitmore replied smoothly. He reached for a lychee, expertly peeled it, and offered the sweet fruit to Melanie Royce's lips.

Melanie had actually been craving them, but she'd held off, not wanting to get her fingers sticky.

Preston always wore his immaculate white gloves, projecting the image of a meticulous neat freak, yet here he was willingly peeling fruit for her without a second thought.

"Thank you."

She accepted the bite. It was sweeter than any she'd had before, and she briefly wondered where they had been catered from.

He quietly continued peeling the fruit while she happily accepted each bite. The two of them existed in their own private bubble, completely detached from the bustling banquet around them.

Watching this unfold from a distance, Dominic Hale was absolutely furious. "Mr. Whitmore! Melanie and I aren't officially divorced yet!"

Preston's hand paused for a fraction of a second. Without even looking up at the man storming over, he resumed peeling and asked coolly, "Is there a law against a woman accepting a piece of fruit from another man before her divorce papers are signed?"

"You—!"

Dominic sputtered, completely at a loss for words. Right at that moment, Aria Royce dragged Sabrina Lowell over to Preston's table.

"Mr. Whitmore, my mother and I wanted to introduce you to a few heavyweight executives," Aria said, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness. "It'll help you build some solid connections for when you eventually transfer to the Stellaris PharmaTech headquarters." Despite her gentle tone, her eyes betrayed a hungry, possessive gleam as she looked at him.

Preston finally lifted his gaze, though he wasn't looking at Aria.

He was looking at the executives standing behind her.

Coincidentally, out of all the invited guests at the banquet, those few men were the only ones who actually knew who Preston was.

They had dealt with him on numerous occasions, and they instantly understood the silent warning in his eyes.

Aria turned, fully intending to show off her impressive network, only to find empty space. The executives had vanished into the crowd without a trace.

"What on earth? Where did they go?"

Aria and Sabrina exchanged confused glances.

"It seems your network isn't quite as extensive as you thought," Preston noted dryly. "It might even be worse than mine."

The blatant mockery sent a hot flush of embarrassment straight to Aria's cheeks.

Unable to stand by while her daughter was humiliated, Sabrina planted a hand on her hip and pointed an accusatory finger. "Who do you think you are? You're nothing but a low-level employee at a Stellaris PharmaTech branch! My daughter was gracious enough to offer you a hand up. If you're incapable of gratitude, fine, but don't you dare sit there and mock her. She's brilliant, and she has suitors lining up from here to the Aegean Sea! A nobody like you doesn't even stand a chance."
