They had plenty of time. Melanie decided not to push it.
The hotel room didn't have many chairs, and the table was quite small, so they sat closely facing each other.
The moment Melanie popped the lid off her takeout bowl, she immediately spotted three massive slices of ginger floating on top of her broth.
Preston saw them at the exact same second and instantly reached over, snapping the lid back onto her bowl.
"I'll order something else."
He already had his phone in hand.
"Wait, you know I hate ginger?"
Melanie asked, genuinely taken aback.
His lightning-fast reaction proved he was perfectly aware of her strict no-ginger policy.
Thinking back, she realized just how astonishingly well he knew her preferences.
Sure, both of them loving beef noodle soup and lychee soda could just be a fun coincidence.
But knowing she despised ginger? Was it simply because she had never once used it when cooking dinner for him at the apartment?
Were his observational skills really that terrifyingly sharp?
Melanie tilted her head, thoroughly intrigued.
"I just ordered from the closest place. I had no idea they dumped so much ginger in their broth."
Seeing the intense guilt pooling in Preston's eyes, Melanie couldn't help but laugh, shaking her head warmly.
"It's totally fine. I can just pick them out. The smell isn't that strong anyway."
"But I don't want you to settle for something you don't like."
Preston's deeply serious reply was abruptly interrupted by a loud, undeniable grumble.
Melanie's stomach was protesting loudly.
"I am literally starving to death right now, so let's just skip the perfectionism!"
Melanie reached for her bowl, but Preston smoothly snatched it away, pulling it toward himself. With meticulous focus, he used his utensils to fish out every single microscopic trace of ginger from her soup.
"There. It should be perfect now."
Once he was completely satisfied, he slid the steaming bowl back in front of her.
Melanie stared at him, her eyes crinkling at the corners as she beamed.
"For a guy who looks like he's never had to lift a finger, you're surprisingly good at taking care of people."
"As long as you're the one giving me the chance to take care of you, I'm happy."
Preston met her gaze, a soft, intensely affectionate smile playing on his lips.
But the moment he looked down to eat, that gentle smile completely vanished.
Even now, he still hadn't confessed to Melanie that he was the absolute powerhouse behind Stellaris PharmaTech.
He knew Melanie had already pieced together that he came from a wealthy background.
Finally, they reached the massive revolving glass doors.
Their hands naturally separated.
Preston was wearing his silk gloves, which should have felt cool to the touch.
Yet, the hand that had been wrapped up in his was completely flushed and sweating.
She wasn't entirely sure if the intense heat had come from her own nerves, or from him.
"Alright, I've got to get up to the office. You should head out! Bye."
Melanie flashed him a smile and turned to head inside.
"Wait."
Suddenly, Preston's arm wrapped around her waist, yanking her flush against his solid chest. A second later, his lips crashed down on hers.
He kissed her right there.
At this exact time of day, the plaza was absolutely swarming with Royce Group employees returning from their lunch breaks.
Even if they weren't in her specific department, ninety percent of the people walking by knew exactly who she was.
Feeling the burning stares of dozens of corporate gossips locking onto them, Melanie panicked and shoved Preston back.
Preston frowned slightly, his dark lashes lowering.
"Sweetheart, are you trying to keep our relationship in the dark?"
