"Sorry, sorry, I'm not laughing at you..." she managed to say through her giggles. "It's just that a man like you standing next to Peppa Pig sheets is a wildly endearing contrast."
He didn't need her explanation; he knew she wasn't mocking him. The only thing he cared about was whether she liked it.
"I took the liberty of redecorating," he said softly. "I wasn't sure if it would be to your standard."
"I love it, I just don't get why you went through all the trouble to completely redo the place..."
Before she could finish her sentence, he caught her in his arms. Their momentum carried them backward, sending them both tumbling onto the mattress and heavily wrinkling the cartoon pigs beneath them.
"Because the nature of our relationship has changed," he whispered hoarsely.
She was pinned securely beneath him. His gaze wasn't harsh—it was deep and incredibly tender, yet laced with a dark, predatory tension that was impossible to ignore.
Her heart raced, and she quickly averted her eyes, suddenly understanding exactly what he meant.
Before, no matter how much undeniable chemistry sparked between them, they were strictly friends—a landlord and a tenant. But now... they were a couple. And a couple living under the same roof meant they were officially living together.
Moving in together on day one of the relationship? This pace was practically astronomical.
At this rate, she wouldn't even be shocked if he dragged her to the courthouse to sign a marriage license by tomorrow morning.
Feeling his deft fingers working the buttons of her blouse, panic spiked in her chest. She immediately clamped her hands over his.
"Stop, we can't do this tonight."
"Why?" he murmured. "Was I not enough for you last night?"
He actually sounded mildly offended, leaving her entirely at a loss for words. *Lacking? You were completely insatiable!*
"I might have to travel for work tomorrow, so we absolutely cannot get carried away tonight."
"Travel?"
He released her, shifting his weight so they were both sitting up on the plush mattress. "Where to?"
"Sir, yes, sir." She flashed him a mock salute, finally coaxing a reluctant smile onto his lips.
"So does that mean... tonight is completely off the table?"
"Completely," she answered with unwavering resolve.
"Alright. I'll take a shower first."
Without another word, he disappeared into the master bath, emerging a short while later dressed in his sleepwear.
It was her turn next. But when she stepped back out into the bedroom, she stopped dead in her tracks. He was still there. In fact, he was already tucked under the covers.
Her mind raced. *This is the master bedroom. It's my room! Is he seriously planning on sleeping in my bed even if we aren't doing anything?*
"...What is it?" he asked softly from the bed. His eyes were closed, yet it felt as though he could see right through her, reading every single frantic thought running through her head.
