She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 438

Melanie raised her eyes as the leader of the Silverward Brotherhood calmly elaborated.

"I despise men who hide behind women."

"But he's..."

"Besides, you heal my legs, I offer you asylum. One transaction per person. It's only fair."

With that, he signaled his men. One of the burly guards immediately stomped toward Everett with a menacing glare.

Though Everett was mentally impaired, his primal survival instincts clearly told him he was in danger.

"Pretty lady... pretty lady, can we leave now, please?"

He sounded on the verge of tears.

Melanie spread her arms wide, shielding Everett behind her body.

She couldn't just leave him to die.

Not only was Everett Dominic's best friend, but he was also her friend.

Out of all of Dominic's circle, Everett had always been the most considerate toward her.

If she let these men toss him out into the wild, he wouldn't survive the night.

Moreover, she desperately needed to know how he had ended up like this.

She remembered that Everett and Evelyn had gotten married even before she and Dominic did.

They had settled down in Bresford after the wedding.

Even if he had been kidnapped and trafficked here, there had to be a catalyst.

She had a sinking feeling...

Everett's presence here had everything to do with Evelyn.

Morally and personally, she had to bring him back to Aldoria.

Melanie was racking her brain for another bargaining chip when a scout suddenly sprinted into the room.

She watched as the man leaned in and whispered frantically into the leader's ear. The boss's eyes flicked over to her.

"Move out. Let's see what's happening."

He didn't need to say a single word for everyone present to know exactly why he was here: to take her away.

His gaze was locked onto her, unwavering, completely blind to the heavily armed syndicate surrounding him.

Melanie's heart hammered against her chest.

It was hard to describe exactly how she felt seeing him here, in a place like this.

All she knew was a sudden, overwhelming urge to cry.

She wanted nothing more than to throw herself into his warm, solid embrace.

But before she could take a step toward him, the leader of the Brotherhood wheeled himself directly into Preston's path.

"Making quite an entrance, aren't we? Do you not realize this is Silverward Brotherhood territory?"

Preston's eyes met the leader's.

The boss had always prided himself on having built his organization from the ground up through blood and bullets.

Yet, meeting Preston's gaze, he unexpectedly felt a chill run down his spine.
