Dominic's face instantly crumbled.
Gregory and Camilla stared in sheer, unadulterated shock.
Naturally, Nathaniel saw exactly what Melanie had just done.
But before he could explode, Sabrina quickly chimed in, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness:
"Oh, it's perfectly fine. Melanie is probably just watching her figure and didn't want the fatty meat. She definitely didn't throw it away because she finds Dominic repulsive or anything."
Melanie shot Sabrina a dark look. She knew the woman would never miss an opportunity to stir the pot.
Nathaniel slammed his hand against the table, his face flushed with rage.
"Melanie! We are all sitting down for a nice family dinner, and you just have to deliberately make things difficult, don't you? If you despise the food that much, then get out of my sight and don't eat!"
His voice was a furious roar.
He had orchestrated this entire evening to force Melanie and Dominic to rebuild their connection. After all, Melanie was the reason Dominic had been thrown in lockup; he had to offer the Hale family some form of compensation.
Forcing Melanie to sit down and share a peaceful meal with Dominic was the least he could do.
He never expected her to so brutally humiliate the man in front of both their families.
Melanie stood up without hesitation.
Leaving was exactly what she wanted!
If it hadn't been for preserving a shred of her father's dignity, she never would have walked through those doors in the first place.
"Melanie, wait, don't go!"
Dominic leaped out of his chair, reaching out desperately to grab her arm.
Right at that second, the grand double doors of the estate swung open.
Led by the butler, a man stepped into the foyer.
His sudden arrival sent a shockwave through everyone sitting at the dining table.
"Apologies for the intrusion, Mr. Royce. I'm here to take my wife home for dinner."
Preston was dressed in his signature all-black suit. The immaculate tailoring and sharp, pressed lines of the fabric radiated a heavy aura of absolute authority and lethal grace.
His black dress shirt and matching tie only amplified his sharp, intimidating presence.
His years of experience told him that the younger man definitely had some serious backing, and his family background was undoubtedly impressive.
But in Averin, the only top-tier elite family with that level of power was the Whitmore family behind Stellaris PharmaTech.
Given Preston's age, and the fact that he looked absolutely nothing like Gabriel, the Vice President of Stellaris PharmaTech, Nathaniel had confidently concluded that this man was not a member of *that* Whitmore family.
Therefore, he wasn't someone untouchable.
Even now, Nathaniel hadn't given up on the idea of forcing Melanie and Dominic back together.
The Royce family and the Hale family were meant to be an unstoppable business alliance. They were supposed to conquer the market together.
As for Melanie and Preston's little romance? He didn't take it seriously for a second.
It was just a fling between young people. The moment the novelty wore off, they would go their separate ways.
Dead silence consumed the dining room.
Nathaniel kept his eyes locked on Preston.
He was genuinely curious to see how this arrogant young man would handle being put in his place.
