Aria put on a coy, shy expression, her gaze darting away playfully.
But the smirk playing on her lips only deepened.
Since Gabriel understood her game, everything was going to be effortless.
"If you already have my card, the room key isn't far behind," she whispered, rising on her tiptoes to lean intimately close to his ear.
By this time, Melanie and Preston had finished their dance.
They strolled arm in arm, wearing satisfied, radiant smiles.
But Melanie's smile instantly vanished the moment she spotted Aria whispering into Gabriel's ear.
"What's wrong?" Preston asked smoothly, catching her shift in mood.
Melanie lifted her chin, gesturing for Preston to look over at Gabriel.
Preston followed her gaze and saw Gabriel standing dangerously close to Aria.
"Gabriel better not fall for Aria's seduction," Melanie said bluntly, voicing her immediate concern.
Gabriel was a critical piece of her plan to feed Aria false information and trap her.
He had already gone out of his way to help Melanie multiple times, and she was incredibly grateful.
But the fact that he helped her without asking for anything in return made her uneasy.
She worried that a man who helped her unconditionally might just as easily help someone else.
Someone like Aria.
And judging by Aria's body language, it was an obvious, calculated seduction.
When it came to women, Gabriel's reputation as a shameless player was notorious.
If Aria managed to bewitch him and he leaked Melanie's plan, all her hard work would go up in smoke.
Though Melanie had only voiced a single sentence, Preston read her racing thoughts effortlessly.
Preston saw the unwavering faith in her eyes, and a wave of warmth spread through his chest.
"Since you trust me, I give you my word. Gabriel will not betray you."
Melanie tilted her head, completely bewildered.
Why did it feel like Preston trusted Gabriel even more than she did?
"What exactly is your relationship with Mr. Whitmore anyway? You both share the same last name. Are you two related?"
She finally asked the question that had been lingering in her mind.
Early on, she had wondered if they were brothers or distant cousins.
But looking at them side by side, Preston and Gabriel shared absolutely no physical resemblance.
Seeing Melanie narrow her eyes in suspicion, Preston fell silent for a beat before answering.
"Mr. Whitmore and I have no blood relation."
