"Melanie, you're probably going to receive an invitation from the Bio-Data Research Center this afternoon for their industry banquet tonight. Whatever you do, do not go."
Melanie paused, tilting her head.
"Why?"
She hadn't spoken to Bryant in a while.
She had heard he was transferred out of town and hadn't returned yet.
Calling her out of the blue just to warn her against attending a dinner?
But wait...
Wasn't the Bio-Data Research Center his own workplace?
She was utterly confused.
Bryant was indeed still stationed in another city.
He had heard the news of her finalized divorce from Dominic and her solid relationship with Preston.
Accepting that he had completely missed his chance, he had backed off to give her space.
However, that didn't mean he stopped caring.
Even from afar, he had learned about the massive crisis threatening her company, specifically the internal betrayal.
He didn't have the leverage to fix it for her.
But through his connections at the research center, he could still gather intel.
"Aria is very close to the new director at the center. I found out she's using them to invite you to the banquet, planning to corner you in front of the entire industry and force an acquisition. So please... do not show up."
Hearing his desperate warning, Melanie could feel his genuine concern.
"Thank you, Bryant. That's incredibly helpful."
"Don't mention it."
After his reply, she sensed him hesitating through the line.
"Is there something else?"
Seeing that she asked, he sighed softly.
After hanging up, Melanie immediately dialed another number.
"I changed my mind. We move tonight."
"In a rush, are we?"
On the other end, Elias pinned his phone to his ear with his shoulder while typing a message on another device.
"Spoken like a true mastermind. Playing by your own rules."
Melanie smiled faintly.
"I'll take that as a compliment."
"You should. It was one."
They both shared a brief laugh.
Right after the call ended, her assistant placed an elegant envelope on her desk.
"Ms. Royce, this just arrived from the Bio-Data Research Center. It's an invitation to tonight's pharmaceutical industry gala at the Centennial Ballroom."
