"Oracle, I swear I had absolutely no idea about this. You know how much I respect you. It's like a clueless son worshiping his brilliant mother..."
"Go to hell!"
Scolded once again, Elias's grievances practically bled through the phone speaker.
"Oracle, I'm a man of precision. Just point me in a direction, and I promise I'll go to hell exactly the way you want me to."
As soon as he finished speaking, Melanie hung up.
The conversation was entirely devoid of substance, and listening to it any longer was a waste of time.
Inside the white BMW 5 Series, Melanie and Preston looked at each other, their gazes open and honest.
"Now... do you still think Elias is your rival?"
Preston blinked dryly, entirely at a loss for words.
When it came to Everett, he hadn't misjudged the situation.
Everett definitely had feelings for Melanie.
But Elias...
He really had misunderstood that one.
No matter how he looked at it, Elias didn't harbor any romantic intentions toward her.
"I'm sorry, Honey, I..."
Her slender fingertips pressed gently against his lips, making his eyes widen.
Melanie's expression was serious, her gaze crystal clear.
"You don't need to apologize. I made mistakes too, which led you to the wrong conclusion... But instead of saying sorry, I'd rather hear you call me 'Honey' a few more times."
Catching the sly smile on her beautiful face, Preston's gaze softened uncontrollably.
He hadn't expected the misunderstanding to clear up so quickly, and his mood soared.
They got out of the car and stepped into the garage. It was only then that Melanie belatedly realized it was pitch black outside.
"How long did I sleep in the car?"
she asked him in shock.
If memory served, it had been broad daylight when they dropped Everett off at his house.
