Just as Gabriel aggressively stormed toward Melanie, ready to snatch the jewelry away, she stood up.
Gabriel froze. Melanie, clutching the boxes, brushed right past him without giving him a single glance.
"Wait, M—"
He almost slipped up again and smacked his own mouth in frustration.
By then, Melanie had reached Preston. She leaned in, whispering something into his ear.
The next thing Gabriel knew, the two of them turned and walked out of the gala together, completely ignoring him.
That instantly killed any remaining desire Gabriel had to network.
He had thrown this victory gala specifically to tighten the bond between Melanie and Stellaris PharmaTech.
He had even prepped the GlycaGuard proposal in advance.
His brother was hopelessly in love with Melanie. It was only a matter of time before the Whitmores and the Royces became family.
Tying their businesses together now was just laying the groundwork.
It was exactly what the Royce Group had done with the Hale Group.
Except back then, the Royce family was the one bleeding money to keep the Hales afloat.
Stellaris was completely different.
Stellaris PharmaTech, backed by the Whitmore family, dwarfed the Royce Group.
Whether financially or emotionally, securing Stellaris as a long-term partner was a massive, undisputed win for Melanie's company.
Gabriel knew Melanie was brilliant. Even if she didn't know the full extent of Preston's ties to Stellaris, she should have seen the obvious benefits of deepening their partnership after the success of VitalBreath Fortis.
And yet...
Her attitude toward him was beyond bizarre.
He knew he wasn't just being paranoid.
Melanie was a consummate professional, impeccably polite. She would never ditch a gala without at least saying goodbye to the host.
