"How is that Preston guy good enough for Melanie? He's just a useless trust-fund kid. Aside from having a pretty face, what does he actually have going for him?"
Seeing that Dominic was refusing to accept reality, Gavin let out a helpless sigh.
"Look, I know you look down on Preston..."
"Damn right I do!"
Dominic bellowed, his voice thick with drunken fury.
"When I was out there starting my own company, he was probably still begging for an internship!"
Gavin opened his mouth, thinking to himself: *You only started your company because your dad funded the whole thing!*
But he kept that thought strictly to himself.
"Dominic, I'm not trying to rag on you, but we have to face reality! Even if Preston is useless, his family clearly has serious money, which is why they got him a cushy job at Stellaris PharmaTech. Plus, from what I've seen, he's perfectly happy to spend big on Melanie..."
"Bullshit!"
Dominic's face twisted into an ugly snarl.
"He doesn't spend big on anything! He just fools Melanie with cheap knockoffs."
The more Dominic spoke, the angrier he got, his face turning red and the veins popping in his neck.
"I'm telling you, Gavin, that Preston guy... he's definitely hiding something. He's nothing but a home-wrecking bastard!"
"The only reason Melanie and I divorced... was because he interfered."
"He's completely wrong for her... I'm the right one. I... Dominic Hale, am the only good man who loves her with all his heart!"
Dominic spoke with righteous indignation, thumping his fist against his chest.
"See? Now you get it, right? I was right all along... I'm just a devoted, hopeless romantic! The only person I've ever truly loved is Melanie. It's only ever been her."
Seeing Dominic suddenly break into a delusional, intoxicated smile, Gavin felt a wave of goosebumps erupt all over his arms.
He realized Dominic was sick.
It wasn't lovesickness.
It was a toxic disease born of pure obsession and delusion.
"Dominic..."
Gavin started, suddenly entirely unsure of how to talk sense into him.
