"And today's launch... you dragged Preston's parents out here so I could falsely accuse Stellaris right to their faces. If I had pulled the trigger, the Whitmore family would have blacklisted me for life..."
Having her painstakingly crafted masterclass picked apart piece by piece left Elara trembling with sheer rage.
"Elara, Preston doesn't want you."
The blunt truth made Elara's eyes bulge with fury.
"But his parents did, which is exactly why they got you that job at Stellaris in the first place, isn't it?"
Melanie stepped right into Elara's space and landed a heavy hand on her shoulder.
"So I did you a favor. By exposing your true colors in front of his parents, I made sure that from this day forward, not just Preston, but nobody in the Whitmore family will ever stand the sight of you. Congratulations. You single-handedly obliterated the alliance between your two families."
As Melanie's airy words rang in her ears, Elara swung her hand for a vicious slap, only to have her wrist snatched out of the air.
"You are a monster!"
Elara's eyes were bloodshot.
Melanie dramatically batted her eyelashes with faux innocence.
"Helping the Whitmores weed out a backstabbing psycho? I'd call that charity."
Watching Elara practically vibrate with humiliated rage put Melanie in a spectacular mood. She turned and walked away, her steps incredibly light.
"Melanie!"
Elara shrieked at her retreating back.
"Whether Stellaris killed your mother or not, Preston still lied to you! He hid his real life from you for months! How are you not furious?"
