Dominic's instincts screamed that Minister Halevy wasn't here just to discuss regulatory technicalities.
She was here to stand up for the Royce Group.
But...
Why?
His mind was spinning with questions.
According to his extensive research, Lilian had absolutely zero connection to the Royce Group.
It was highly likely she didn't even know who Melanie was.
So why was the powerful Minister going out of her way to defend her?
Dominic rubbed his jaw, completely baffled.
Truthfully, Melanie was wondering the exact same thing.
She had never met Lilian, and as far as she knew, the Royce Group had never crossed paths with her either.
Yet, every word out of Lilian's mouth was a blatant shield for her company.
If this was just about Lilian seeking justice and fairness, Melanie found it hard to believe.
Not that she doubted the woman's moral compass.
But if Lilian merely wanted impartiality, ordering Reginald to strictly follow protocol would have been enough.
There was no need to verbally decimate the man so ruthlessly.
Subtly, Melanie studied Lilian, still failing to grasp the reason for this blatant favoritism.
"Since... VP Hale insists that the Royce Group's supplements are problematic, claiming they caused severe nausea for the patients at your facility, then tomorrow I will personally visit the Lockridge Convalescent Home to check on them. Would that be convenient for you, VP Hale?"
Since Melanie had put it so directly, Dominic had no choice but to agree.
"Fine. We can run the lab tests right then and there. That way, you can't accuse me of forging the results."
Melanie looked at him and offered a serene smile.
"Deal."
She had nothing to hide, and her conscience was clear. She wasn't afraid of any test.
After settling the matter with Dominic, Melanie turned to Lilian and offered a sincere word of gratitude.
"Minister Halevy, that necklace is a fake!"
Leila Langley suddenly lunged forward, pointing an accusatory finger at Melanie.
"The stones she's wearing are lab-grown! It's a complete knockoff! Minister Halevy, please don't let her fool you. Wearing fake jewelry to an event like this is a massive insult to you. She needs to be kicked out immediately!"
Leila's voice was shrill and self-righteous, acting as if she had just caught Melanie committing a federal crime.
Everyone knew how much Lilian prized authentic jewels.
Given her immense status...
How could she possibly tolerate a woman parading around her prestigious banquet in cheap knockoffs?
Leila was certain that after exposing her, Melanie wouldn't dare show her face in high society again. The humiliation would be absolute!
The surrounding air suddenly went dead silent, broken only by Lilian letting out a heavy, exasperated sigh.
"Security!"
Hearing Lilian call for the guards, a triumphant smirk spread across Leila's face.
"Please escort this young woman out," Lilian commanded without missing a beat. "She is not fit to attend my banquet."
