"Are you coming down with a cold, Mr. Whitmore?"
The man sitting next to Preston Whitmore took the initiative to ask.
He was slightly older than Preston, likely in his early forties, and sported a highly recognizable handlebar mustache.
His name was Tobias York, the head of the York family—the most powerful and sole pharmaceutical dynasty on Ruben Isle.
Preston wasn't too familiar with the York family. Stellaris PharmaTech rarely did business with them; at most, he and Tobias would only cross paths at industry summits like this one.
This was the first time they had ever been seated together.
Since the summit was held on Ruben Isle, it made perfect sense that the island's most influential faction was placed front and center in the first row.
Seeing Preston's silence, Tobias reached into his suit pocket, pulled out a small pill bottle, and offered it to him.
"This is York-Pharm Cold Relief, our newest development. It's completely non-toxic with zero side effects. You should give it a try."
"Thank you, but that won't be necessary. I don't have a cold."
Preston replied with cool indifference.
It wasn't that he had any issue with the York family's medication.
He genuinely just wasn't sick.
He had sneezed five times in a row a moment ago, which, in his mind, likely meant someone was talking about him behind his back.
Could it be Melanie?
Preston lowered his gaze, concealing the deep longing in his eyes.
Tobias turned his head, openly staring at him.
He knew Preston was famously aloof and aristocratic, exuding an intimidating, unapproachable aura when he kept a straight face.
"I almost forgot, Stellaris PharmaTech has its own cold medicine. But... ours is definitely better."
With that, Tobias rattled the small bottle right in front of Preston's face.
"What do you say, Mr. Whitmore? Interested?"
Seeing Tobias stroke his handlebar mustache with absolute confidence, Preston found his curiosity uniquely piqued.
In terms of sheer scale, the York family was nowhere near the Whitmore family's level.
Tobias shut his mouth, cast a quiet sideways glance at the man beside him, and shrugged.
The summit featured several major topics, leaving the floor open for discussion.
About two hours in, Tobias started getting restless, squirming in his seat as if he had ants in his pants.
"So boring! This is so incredibly boring..."
Propping his chin on one hand, Tobias let out a lazy yawn.
"I have no idea what's left to discuss with these tired old cliches."
Muttering under his breath, he instinctively looked over at Preston.
Preston remained exactly as he had been—sitting perfectly still, utterly silent, looking like an indestructible iceberg.
Tobias curled his lip, his expression clearly saying: The guy next to me is just as dull.
Truthfully, Preston had noticed the staring, but he still refused to say a word.
He didn't know much about the York family, and he knew even less about Tobias York.
