"So what do you suggest? We just let it go?"
Camilla planted her hands on her hips, fuming.
"If we let it go this time, next time she'll spend two hundred million on a boy toy! Will our family ever be able to show its face in high society again? Being afraid of our own daughter-in-law… if word gets out, it'll be a complete disgrace!"
Listening to Camilla's rant, Gregory's expression darkened as well.
"In any case, you stay out of this… I have my own plans."
Her attempt to take out her anger on Melanie and assert her authority thwarted, Camilla shot him a nasty glare.
"Get out, all of you, get out! I can't stand the sight of you!"
Dominic, Evelyn, and Lila were kicked out.
On the drive back to Rosecrest Villas, Dominic was silent at the wheel.
Evelyn sat in the passenger seat, as always.
She knew this Maybach was a wedding gift from Melanie to him.
In the past, sitting in this seat always made her feel smug and comfortable.
Tonight, however, she felt like she was sitting on pins and needles.
Lila was quiet in her car seat in the back.
She knew her mother had made a mistake.
Though she was young, she vaguely understood that the company going bankrupt was a very serious matter.
That was why her father was angry with her mother.
Dominic parked the car in front of their building but didn't get out.
"You take Lila home."
Evelyn's expression immediately tensed.
Her worst fear was coming true.
"What about you? Where are you going?"
"I'm going to go clear my head."
"I'll go with you…"
"No need."
Dominic's refusal was curt. He didn't even spare her a glance.
Lila didn't dare to speak up from the back.
He knew The Hale Group had gone bankrupt.
But his hands were tied.
He, Dominic, and Everett had been best friends since childhood.
First, Everett disappeared, his fate unknown, and now Dominic's company had collapsed.
Gavin wasn't a superstitious person.
But now, he was starting to believe.
"I'm telling you, Dominic… don't you ever think that Evelyn is just bad luck?"
Dominic was slumped over the table, clutching the bottle with his eyes closed. Gavin wasn't sure if he had passed out drunk.
But whether Dominic was asleep or not, there were some things he had to say.
"Ever since Everett married Evelyn, I never saw him smile. Then he just vanished without a trace…"
"And now look at you… a perfectly good company bankrupted all because of her…"
Gavin pushed back his suit jacket, placed his hands on his hips, and the more he spoke, the more exasperated he became.
"I just don't get it. What the hell do you see in Evelyn?"
