Melanie rarely saw Preston looking so casual, and her eyes naturally lingered on him.
"Like what you see?"
Preston asked smoothly, catching her stare.
She was absolutely not going to admit that his relaxed look had momentarily captivated her.
Instead, she fired back,
"It's a hot day at a theme park, and you're still wearing those gloves?"
Preston glanced down at his hands, a faint smirk playing on his lips.
"These are... my true essence."
Melanie couldn't hold back a laugh.
"Wow, you guys are early!"
Daphne's voice rang out as she hurried toward them, waving excitedly from a distance.
Melanie and Preston turned to look, and both were instantly struck with the exact same look of total bewilderment.
What shocked them was Daphne's outfit.
Even Preston, the man who practically lived in formalwear, had opted for comfortable athletic clothes today.
Daphne, however, had shown up in a glamorous, ankle-length designer dress.
Not only was the dress long, but it was heavy with metal hardware and intricate lace detailing. It looked like an absolute nightmare to move in.
And to pull off the elaborate look, she had paired the whole thing with towering high heels.
Melanie blinked, trying to process the sight.
"Daphne, are you... are you absolutely sure you want to navigate a theme park in stilettos and an evening gown?"
"What do you think? Gorgeous, right?"
Daphne completely missed Melanie's concern, beaming with pride as she grabbed the edges of the skirt and gave a little twirl.
Melanie forced a tight, awkward smile.
It was gorgeous. No one could deny that.
The delicate straps accentuated her slender frame, while the flowing layers of tulle and lace gave off an aura of elegant, ethereal beauty.
The pale cyan color was strikingly sophisticated.
But the main issue was...
The dress was wildly inappropriate for a day of rollercoasters and walking miles on concrete.
"It's stunning... but aren't you worried it's going to ruin your day? And frankly, that dress doesn't look cheap."
"You really know your stuff."
Daphne checked her phone, instantly rushing to defend him.
Melanie couldn't resist a playful tease.
"She's an incredible girlfriend. Always rushing to your rescue."
Daphne flushed a bright crimson, while Everett looked sheepish—but underneath his polite smile, there was a heavy trace of discomfort.
He finally turned his gaze fully onto Daphne, and his eyes went wide.
Watching from the sidelines, Melanie and Preston realized Everett was just now registering what she was wearing.
"Why are you dressed like that?"
Everett asked, genuine bewilderment in his voice.
"What do you think? Does it look good? Do you like it?"
Daphne eagerly spun around again, getting dizzy from the rapid motion and almost losing her balance in her heels.
Fortunately, Everett caught her by the arm before she could tumble over.
"Thanks..."
Looking into Daphne's hopeful, adoring eyes, Everett fell silent for a moment before quietly responding,
"It's beautiful... I... I really like it."
