The target of Valerie's whining was her boyfriend, Mr. Kensington, the owner of Vanguard Medical Systems.
Kensington had been divorced twice and possessed a face that was incredibly hard to look at. Sure, he had money, but finding a woman who was young, beautiful, and had a great figure was no walk in the park. So when Valerie willingly threw herself at him, he was thrilled and spoiled her rotten.
Earlier that day, Valerie had thrown a massive fit after her dream dress was snatched out from under her. To smooth things over, Kensington had dropped fifteen thousand dollars on a pearl necklace just to get her to smile again.
And now, by some twisted stroke of fate, the woman who took the dress was right here at the banquet.
"Let's go!" Kensington grabbed Valerie's hand, looking completely prepared to march over and demand justice for his girlfriend.
However, he stopped short before getting too close to Melanie. He waited until Sebastian and the others dispersed to socialize, leaving Melanie standing alone with Preston. Only then did he make his move.
"You're the one, aren't you?"
Melanie turned at the sound of the voice, coming face-to-face with Kensington.
He had marched over with an aggressive glare, but the moment he actually got a good look at Melanie's face, his expression completely dissolved.
Valerie was expecting her man to lay down the law and put Melanie in her place. Instead, Kensington just stood there, staring at Melanie like he had forgotten how to breathe.
"If you're just going to stand there and drool, I'm leaving!" Valerie snapped, pivoting on her heel.
That snapped Kensington out of his trance. "Wait, baby, don't be mad! I wasn't looking at her!"
"Hmph!" Valerie crossed her arms, throwing a tantrum.
"You!" Valerie choked on her words, her face turning crimson with rage. She yanked hard on Kensington's arm. "Say something!"
"Uh... well, about that..." Kensington stammered.
Before he could string a sentence together, his phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID, and the color completely drained from his face.
He frantically answered the call, practically bowing to the phone. Whoever was on the other end held immense power over him.
The call was brief. When Kensington lowered his phone, Valerie wore a triumphant smirk.
"Honey, you own Vanguard Medical Systems. This woman bullied me. Show her what happens when she messes with us! Make her apologize to me right now!"
