She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 42

But as his personal assistant, Victor naturally knew the truth.

Hearing the order, Victor's hands paused on the steering wheel.

He wondered what the woman had done this time to piss Mr. Jewell off so badly.

"Understood, sir," Victor replied casually, not taking it too seriously. After all, to him, it was just a matter of making a few phone calls.

The car started up and slowly drove away.

Herbert stared out the window, his deep scowl slightly relaxing as a thought crossed his mind. "Sylvie needs a new place. She's been too busy lately to handle it herself. Find some time to check what kind of apartment she's looking for and get it sorted. Put the expenses on the company tab as usual."

"Got it." Victor smiled readily. "As soon as we get to the office, I'll ask Ms. Sinclair for her exact requirements."

At the company, Victor handled Herbert's personal affairs, but Sylvie was his professional assistant, putting her at a much higher rank. On top of that, she was a senior researcher at the company's project lab. Because holding two key positions made titles confusing, she simply had everyone call her Ms. Sinclair.

An hour later, at the old Jewell estate, Valery frowned as she hung up the phone with Victor.

"Who was that?" Cora Jewell asked, strolling over with a face mask on. Seeing her usually elegant mother looking so displeased sparked her curiosity.

Valery sat on the sofa, knees politely pressed together, elegantly rubbing her temples with her perfectly manicured fingers. "That was Victor. He said Herbert gave the order to cut off Hulda's monthly allowance."

Hulda held two supplementary credit cards tied to Herbert's accounts.

As for her allowance, Victor dutifully wired the funds into her bank account on the dot every single month.

Or rather, that was how the official process was supposed to work.

"Got it," Cora beamed, thrilled by the news.

This month, she could completely justify buying a few more limited-edition designer bags.

What the rest of the family didn't know was that this wasn't the first time Cora had withheld Hulda's money. In the past, she had secretly skimmed off the top or just conveniently 'forgot' to send it altogether. But every single time, Hulda had swallowed the loss in silence, never asking for it and never complaining to Herbert.

Cora assumed Hulda simply didn't care because she had her brother's credit cards. That assumption made her incredibly brazen about skimming the funds.

But this time was different! This time, she could withhold the money with absolute justification!

Thinking of that, she couldn't resist adding fuel to the fire. "She deserves it. It's about time she learned the consequences of not taking proper care of Miles."
