Hulda scoffed. "So, because of this woman's brother, you hurt your own biological son?"
"I..."
*Smack!*
A sharp, ringing slap echoed down the entire corridor.
Hulda had struck Herbert across the face, instantly cutting off whatever he was about to say.
The slap was so sudden that the bystanders didn't react at first.
A few seconds later, Valery was the first to snap out of it.
She let out a shriek and rushed over. "Hulda Atherton, how dare you hit him!"
The glare she gave Hulda looked murderous enough to tear her apart.
"Don't you try throwing your weight around here, Hulda! Do you think being some R&D Director means you can walk all over our family? Let me tell you, this whole mess is your fault!"
Things had escalated to a point where the family's dignity was already in tatters.
Inside the operating room, her precious Miles was fighting for his life.
Valery glared at Hulda, finding an outlet for all the pent-up frustration of the past few days. "You're the one who had no shame! You used dirty, despicable tricks to seduce Herbert, and he was forced to marry you. When it comes down to it, you'll always owe him. What right do you have to hit him now?!"
This again!
Hulda had said it countless times: she never did it. She never did it!
Just then, the doors to the operating room swung open again.
Every bit of conflict, tension, and rage ground to a sudden halt the moment a blood-soaked doctor rushed out.
Valery's face drained of color. Seeing the sheer amount of blood on the doctor's scrubs, she nearly collapsed. Thankfully, Herbert caught her just in time.
