Sensing exactly what Ingrid was about to say, Quinn frantically interjected. "Look! Over there! A black swan, it's so beautiful!"
Even at three, Caleb possessed a distinct, icy composure, and the way he pursed his lips was a mirror image of Miles York.
Even with a mask on, his stance and aura were terrifyingly similar to Miles's.
She was terrified of letting Ingrid finish that sentence and drawing Evelyn and Miles's scrutiny back to Caleb.
Evelyn's gaze shifted back down, landing on Luna. Catching the striking resemblance between the girl and Quinn, she froze...
How did this child look so much like Quinn?
Miles had mentioned wanting to formally accept a toddler as his goddaughter. Was it this exact little girl he was holding right now?
She was utterly adorable, as sweet and soft as a little dumpling. No wonder her grandson adored her.
And as an old woman, she instantly adored her too.
"Little one, what's your name?"
Luna cheered in her sugary voice. "Hello, ma'am! I'm Luna!"
Luna wiggled out of Miles's arms to hop down, boldly taking the elderly woman's hand.
Miles knelt and let her go, and her squishy little body practically threw itself onto Evelyn's knees.
Tilting her perfectly sculpted, cherubic face up, she marveled, "Ma'am, you look exactly like a Guardian Angel! We have a statue of one at home, and she's just as gentle and elegant as you are."
Her big, round eyes sparkled. Like any child, she spoke her mind with unfiltered innocence.
Evelyn threw her head back and burst into joyous, ringing laughter.
The wrinkles by her eyes crinkled with boundless warmth as she reached out to tap Luna's dainty little nose.
"You clever little thing. You're an absolute Lucky Charm! You've completely melted my heart."
"Miles, this child is a blessing. Having her as your goddaughter is a gift to you and to the entire York family."
Quinn leveled an icy glare at Miles. Did he really have to tell his grandmother about this?
Miles felt the icy daggers staring him down, but when he glanced back, Quinn had already lowered her eyes.
"How about you let Grandma Evelyn give you a hug?"
That dizzying sense of familiarity surged through Evelyn again, making her feel as though this child was truly her own great-granddaughter.
Luna's big, dark eyes curved into twin crescents as she giggled, her entire face lighting up.
