She Walked Away With His Twins, While He Begged the Ground She Walked On novel Chapter 26

He would only ever assume she was shifting the blame and making excuses.

With that, she offered a polite, shallow smile. "But thank you for not immediately assuming I shoved Jade on purpose, like Miles did."

After delivering that line, she gave a slight nod and walked away.

Julian watched her retreating, lonely silhouette, an unnamable ripple flashing through his deep gaze.

Perhaps, Quinn wasn't as despicable as they had all imagined.

Maybe... this constantly vilified woman held a resilient purity in her bones that was far more genuine than the rest of them.

...

"Jade, what happened to your foot?"

Macy walked in holding a cob of grilled corn. Seeing her brother inspecting Jade's ankle, she asked in confusion.

"Macy, I... I'm fine. I just accidentally sprained it."

"Sprained it, my foot! I saw it with my own eyes. That bitch Quinn pushed Jade on purpose."

Cody and Luke walked in right behind her. Cody had overheard the maids gossiping outside.

After questioning them, the staff had relayed exactly what they thought they saw.

Jade immediately took the blame, her voice painfully gentle. "Cody, it's my fault... I shouldn't have pressured Quinn to join the BBQ. It's on me, don't blame her."

Luke stepped closer, his eyes practically overflowing with heartache for her.

"Jade, you always take the blame for everything. That woman is just jealous of you. Did you forget? When she found out you and Miles were childhood sweethearts, she spiked your tea and gave you a massive allergic reaction. She almost ruined your face!"

Jade felt a rush of vindication but, maintaining her forgiving persona in front of Miles, she spoke softly.

"Luke, that's all in the past."

Her words caused a subtle shift of emotion in Miles's eyes as he looked at her.

Luke continued advocating for her. "Jade, she doesn't deserve your kindness."

Macy quickly agreed. "Luke is right. That woman doesn't deserve an ounce of your pity."
