Cody realized he had severely overstepped. His face flushed with embarrassment as he lowered his head and quickly stepped aside.
He ordered Gail, "Keep massaging it, but lighten up. Her ankle is injured, she can't handle the pressure."
Gail felt incredibly wronged. She hadn't even applied any pressure yet, and Jade was already screaming in pain.
Was she supposed to keep going or not?
"Gail, I... I'll just do it myself."
Hearing that, Gail eagerly stepped back like she had just been relieved of a ticking time bomb. She stood to the side, ready to hand over the balm, entirely unwilling to touch her again.
Finding the crowd a bit stifling for her performance, Jade spoke up.
"Cody, Macy, why don't you guys go back out and play? I'll join you in a bit."
Cody wanted to say something but was dragged away by Macy, who whispered,
"Let's go. Don't bother Miles and Jade."
Luke glanced at Jade, then at Miles.
A hint of dejection flashed in his eyes as he walked out with Sienna.
Miles sat beside Jade, handing her a tissue. "Are you absolutely sure you don't want Gail to help massage it?"
She shook her head gently, a look of unyielding resilience in her eyes. "No."
Seeing her act so fragile and broken, yet stubbornly refusing to burden anyone else, moved Miles.
Her determination to silently shoulder all her grievances and hardships caused his expression to soften.
When Quinn walked in, she saw his tall frame practically enveloping her.
From her angle, it looked exactly as if he were tenderly and intimately massaging Jade's ankle.
It was a blinding, heart-wrenching sight. A faint, bitter taste spread across her tongue. She averted her gaze and returned to her room.
She poured out some iodine and disinfected her palm again, biting down on a piece of clean gauze as she painstakingly re-bandaged her right hand.
"Hiss~"
