Ethan asked, "Who? Quinn, do you already know who stole your manuscript?"
A cold light glinted in Quinn's eyes. "It was Jade Winter. She wanted to compete for the award too, and Miles York even acquired Voyager Foreign Language Press just for her."
At this, a layer of frost settled over Ethan's features. Behind his glasses, his striking eyes turned glacial. "I didn't expect it to be her."
"Director Vance, someone stole Quinn's manuscript," he explained to the older man.
Arthur Vance's expression grew solemn before he let out a faint sigh. "How could you be so careless? I suggest reporting this to the police. As long as they investigate thoroughly and clear Quinn's name, this manuscript can be submitted again."
As the two left the publishing house together, Ethan noticed her low spirits and self-blame.
"Quinn, as long as we find evidence proving Jade stole your translation, we can get your authorship back. You can still compete for this award."
He continued, "I installed a security plugin on your computer. Whenever a flash drive is plugged in to copy files, it requires your command or my remote authorization. I never received a prompt like that, which means the data must have been copied onto the flash drive beforehand, right?"
"Yes," she confirmed. "My old laptop was broken, so I took it to Miles's company to have the data recovered. I stored it on a flash drive I borrowed from Wayne West."
Ethan paused. "Do you have Wayne's phone number? I'd like to ask him a few questions."
Quinn immediately remembered his tech background. "Ethan, do you have a way to prove someone stole my work?"
Ethan's dark eyes remained calm, exuding the meticulous, cool rationality unique to his profession.
"IT professionals usually install a plugin called Shadow-Trace on their flash drives. It locks onto the location where the drive is read to prevent theft. I'm just not sure if Wayne does this too."
