Jade waved her hand, dismissing Lynn so she wouldn't get in the way.
Lynn tactfully scurried off. Jade leaned toward Miles with a smile, speaking as if making a casual observation.
"Miles, isn't that Quinn over there? She actually came?"
Miles whipped his head around, following her line of sight.
Quinn happened to be looking in their direction, and their gazes collided mid-air.
Miles's eyes were as deep and unreadable as an ancient well, betraying neither anger nor joy.
Jade's tone carried a hint of feigned worry. "Last time she said she wouldn't make things easy for me. I thought she was just speaking out of anger. I didn't expect her to actually show up here with her best friend."
"Don't worry, Jade. She might be unreasonable, but she wouldn't be stupid enough to make a scene in such a public setting!"
Seeing Miles sitting next to Jade, looking every bit the perfect couple, Yara felt a surge of injustice for her friend.
"That scumbag. I didn't curse him out for nothing at the police station. Parading his little childhood sweetheart around everywhere, showing up at public events over and over. And now he's here backing up this fake innocent act. How shameless can he be, claiming he and Jade are totally platonic? Yeah, right..."
"Yara, treat them like they don't exist."
Yara squeezed her hand. She didn't know if Quinn truly didn't care anymore or if she was just numb, but her heart ached for her, feeling she deserved so much better.
She glared resentfully toward Miles and Jade. "Jade stole your hard work, and that scumbag Miles isn't just refusing to help you—he's actively helping her suppress you. Today, I'm going to watch exactly how Jade's reputation burns to the ground."
Quinn indifferently withdrew her gaze, not lingering on Miles for a second longer.
This inexplicably ignited a flare of anger in Miles's chest. His brows knitted tightly together.
He pulled out his phone and texted Hunter: [Find out who the middle-aged man standing next to Quinn Avery is.]
Hunter replied instantly: [Right away, Boss.]
He wasn't inside the hall but stationed outside. Receiving his boss's message, he immediately launched an investigation.
