The audience in the front rows had already pulled out their phones, aggressively snapping photos of her.
"She was acting all innocent and helpless a second ago, trying to frame Quinn Avery for being jealous and vindictive. The thief trying to play the victim first—how disgusting!"
"Didn't she just say she never stole Quinn's manuscript? Didn't she say there was no proof and tell everyone to stop slandering her?"
"Karma hit her fast!"
"Yeah, she's absolutely vile!"
The judges in the front row leaned forward, their eyes locked on the projection screen as they whispered intensely among themselves.
The reporters kept their fingers pinned to their camera shutters. The frantic clicking of lenses and the blinding strobes couldn't drown out the explosive waves of gossip echoing through the hall.
Jade took a step back, her eyes still desperately trying to feign innocence. "The IP address doesn't necessarily belong to my house. The police haven't released any findings yet. You have no right to pin baseless accusations on me!"
With tears shimmering in her eyes, she looked pitifully toward Miles York for help. "Miles, you believe me, right..."
Miles' long, raven-dark eyelashes lowered, masking the fractured disappointment in his gaze. He pressed a hand to his throbbing temples.
His voice was hoarse as he gave the order. "Tristan, clear the room!"
"Yes, Boss."
Tristan Vance immediately forced the media to shut down their livestreaming equipment. He then signaled the event organizers to take the stage and manage the fallout.
"Thank you all for attending tonight's ceremony. Given the serious allegations regarding copyright infringement, the Gold Award presentation is suspended effective immediately. We have handed all relevant evidence over to the authorities for a full investigation. The final results and award presentation will resume once the police have cleared the matter. We ask for your patience and understanding."
The crowd glared at the pitifully trembling Jade with open resentment. "What a perfectly good ceremony, completely ruined by this woman."
Several veteran translators shook their heads in dismay, their voices heavy with disappointment and disgust.
