Gabe opened Quinn's handwritten translation notes next, displaying page after page of her personal handwriting and detailed annotations.
"Now, look at the timestamp for when Ms. Winter submitted her entry. It was exactly the evening of the day after Ms. Avery uploaded her files to the cloud."
"According to Ms. Avery, she accidentally misplaced her flash drive that afternoon, and Ms. Winter picked it up."
Someone in the crowd immediately raised a doubt. "That... doesn't necessarily prove Jade stole her work. Jade could just argue she created her document before Quinn did."
"Yeah, and even if the document creation timestamp is later, I recall you can easily alter original timestamps in the file properties. What does this really prove?"
Cody rushed to agree. "Exactly! What kind of evidence is this? How does this prove Jade's submission was Quinn's translation?"
Luke scoffed contemptuously. "Don't tell me this is the smoking gun you brought. Are you just up there to make a fool of yourself?"
Gabe looked completely unfazed, as if he had fully anticipated their weak counterarguments. His composure was absolute. He looked directly at the person who asked the question. "That is an excellent point. Which is why the next thing I'm going to show you is the most direct piece of evidence we have."
"Everyone, please look here. This is the data extracted from Jade's computer. The creation timestamp of this document aligns perfectly with the afternoon Quinn lost her flash drive. Now, you could argue that file creation dates can be altered after the fact.
"However, the moment Jade accessed the files on Quinn's flash drive, a security alert was instantly triggered on Ms. Avery's laptop, simultaneously locking onto the IP address of the computer accessing the drive."
"Because Ms. Avery had installed the Shadow-Trace Plugin onto her flash drive specifically to prevent data loss or unauthorized access."
"The cloud upload timestamp comes first, followed by the security alert triggered when the flash drive was accessed. As for the IP address..."
"Ms. Avery has already filed a police report. The authorities are investigating as we speak, and I'm sure they will arrive shortly to confirm whether this IP address matches Jade Winter's residence."
He phrased it diplomatically, leaving the final verdict to the police, but the writing was on the wall. The truth was out in the open, and everyone in the room had already made up their minds.
