Quinn's tone was flat. "I'm tired, and I want to rest. Thank you for staying the night. I'll pay back the favor eventually. You can leave now."
It wasn't that she didn't want to speak; it was a suffocating wave of despair that proved she had long given up on the man standing before her.
Telling him would only make him think she was utterly paranoid. She was drained, and she had neither the desire nor the energy to argue with him right now.
She would go to the police herself and let them handle the investigation.
"Quinn, I'm talking to you. Can't you hear me?"
Miles clearly sensed her refusal to engage, and a flash of irritation crossed his face. He had no idea what she was so worried about, or why her guard was so high.
"I told you, I will get you justice. You don't need to be afraid of anyone."
Anyone?
He was the absolute last person she wanted to discuss the attack with, let alone name the mastermind.
But since he insisted on pushing, Quinn finally looked up, her eyes laced with biting mockery as she spoke in an airy tone.
"Oh? Are you really going to get me justice, Miles?"
Miles despised that look on her face. His brows furrowed. "What kind of question is that? Of course I will."
Quinn leaned her fragile frame against the headboard, her lips pale as her gaze locked steadily onto his.
She let out a dry, bitter laugh. "Right..."
His dark eyes narrowed. "What's so funny?"
A fleeting shadow of contempt crossed Quinn's eyes, her words dripping with deliberate skepticism.
"Let me ask you one more time, Miles. Are you truly willing to seek justice for me, instead of just telling me to let it go?"
A sharp sting pierced Miles's chest. How could he not hear the heavy sarcasm in her voice?
Yes, in the past, he had told her to drop things, to stop being so aggressive.
But how could she equate those trivial squabbles with an actual crime?
His profound gaze rested heavily on her pale face, catching that lingering sneer in her eyes, and a sudden, oppressive weight settled over his chest.

I would have accepted the jerk husband ending up with the heroine if he’s only powerful, intelligent but he’s so powerless and so stupid....
Can you make Ethan be the endgame? That Miles is a total jerk....
