The air in the room suddenly grew thick and suffocating. Gail stood there holding the bowl of oatmeal, unsure whether to set it down or keep holding it.
After a painfully long pause, she finally spoke up gently. "Mr. York, maybe... you should step out for a bit. We can talk about this later. Let Mrs. York have her breakfast first."
"Oh, right. I brought some breakfast for you too, and Jack sent over some fresh clothes. Let me go grab them for you."
Quinn had already taken the blame just to end the conversation, absolutely refusing to tangle with him any further.
But somehow, that had only pissed him off even more?
Miles tugged at his collar, his brow furrowed as he snapped in sheer frustration. "Quinn, I will investigate this. But you need to take a hard look at yourself. Maybe your own inappropriate behavior out in public managed to piss off the wrong woman!"
He heavily emphasized the word "woman," his tone laced with a biting warning.
He was insinuating that she had been running around, seducing other men, and that it was their furious wives or girlfriends who had finally retaliated.
The sheer, cutting humiliation of his words slammed into Quinn's chest, leaving her breathless and trembling as her knuckles turned stark white.
Hot moisture immediately pooled in her eyes. A suffocating wave of injustice threatened to break her, but she bit down hard on her lip, refusing to let a single tear fall.
Gail watched the disastrous exchange, completely at a loss, but she could clearly see the agonizing heartbreak on Quinn's face.
"Mr. York... Mrs. York hasn't eaten yet. Just let her have some food."
Miles shot Gail a cold, jagged look before turning on his heel and storming out in a fit of temper.
"Mrs. York, please have some oatmeal. You haven't eaten since yesterday. You must be starving."
Quinn slowly released her death grip on the bedsheets, her voice completely dead. "Gail, I'm going to wash up first. Just leave the food there. I'll eat it later."
"Okay."
She walked into the bathroom, locked the door, turned on the faucet, and slumped against the tiled wall...
When she finally emerged, her face was completely void of expression, though her eyes looked strikingly luminous, as if freshly washed.
She quietly picked up the bowl and began eating her breakfast.

I would have accepted the jerk husband ending up with the heroine if he’s only powerful, intelligent but he’s so powerless and so stupid....
Can you make Ethan be the endgame? That Miles is a total jerk....
