She Walked Away With His Twins, While He Begged the Ground She Walked On novel Chapter 43

Miles reached out to adjust the hair clip in Jade's hair, his movements so gentle it was as if they were the only two people in the room.

Quinn felt like a pathetic clown who had blundered into the intimate, emotionally charged space of two lovers.

She immediately spun on her heel and retreated to the kitchen, acutely aware she had interrupted at the wrong time.

She had seen them together plenty of times, but this was the first time she had witnessed Miles stroking Jade's hair with such tenderness.

The soft devotion in his eyes and the faint smile gracing his lips were entirely alien to her.

Miles unclasped the accessory for her. "There, Jade, it's out. Don't use these crystal clips next time; they pull your hair."

Jade offered a sickeningly sweet smile. "Thanks, Miles. It really was pulling uncomfortably."

Quinn stared blankly at the steaming pot on the stove, her mind lost in a chaotic void.

"Ms. Avery, the water... it's about to boil dry. We need to add more."

"I'll do it."

Quinn grabbed a bowl of water, but as she lifted the glass lid, a blast of hot steam caught her hand.

She let out a sharp gasp. "Ah!"

Crash!

The ivory porcelain bowl slipped from her grasp and shattered into pieces on the floor.

The sharp noise instantly drew the attention of the living room. Macy dropped her fruit fork and strutted over in her heels.

"What's going on here?"

Quinn, nursing her scorched skin, was running cold water over her burn.

Macy looked down at the shattered remains of the bowl, her face contorting with rage.

"Quinn, are you throwing a tantrum? Do you have any idea what you just broke? That was a custom Italian bone china bowl! The set costs six figures, and that single piece is worth more than most people make in months. Can you even afford to pay for it?"

Hearing the six-figure price tag, panic flashed across Gail's face.

She had just grabbed the nearest bowl in her rush to add water. If she had known it was that expensive, she never would have touched it.

What was she going to do?
