"Jade, I have some business to take care of. Head back without me today. I can't drop you off."
Seeing his refusal to bring her along, a flash of jealous resentment darted through Jade's eyes.
But her expression smoothly shifted back to one of gentle obedience. "Alright then. I'll call you tonight."
"Mhm."
As the car pulled away, the sweet smile vanished from Jade's face, replaced by a twisted look of frustration.
It seemed she had underestimated Quinn. She hadn't realized Miles harbored any lingering attachment to her.
Cursing Quinn under her breath, she vowed that the moment she caught an opening, she would trample that bitch into the dirt.
...
Quinn asked HJ for a phone number to coordinate the meetup.
Hunter saw the message and replied that he would be there soon and would just message her on SwiftSwap when he arrived.
Quinn found it strange. Why wouldn't this person give a number, or at least ask for hers?
About forty minutes later, she figured they had to be close to Fairview Apartments.
Not wanting a stranger knocking on her door, she grabbed the tablet and went downstairs.
The address she provided was Aqua-Vista Park, right across the street. She had planned to have them call when they arrived, purposely keeping her apartment a secret.
Once at the park, she messaged HJ: [I'm waiting on the bench in the southeast corner. What are you wearing?]
HJ replied: [I'll be there in ten minutes.]
Quinn felt a nagging sense of unease, though she couldn't pinpoint why.
Why didn't he ask what she was wearing?
And why didn't he answer her question?
Worried he might miss her, she texted again: [I'm in a black hoodie, hair in a ponytail. There aren't many people here, so you shouldn't miss me.]
Reading the message in the car, Hunter's mouth twitched. He didn't need to ask; he already knew exactly what the boss's wife liked to wear.
Casual top, straight-leg jeans, canvas sneakers. Simple and practical.
Stepping out of the car, Miles and Hunter headed toward the southeast corner of Aqua-Vista Park, immediately spotting Quinn sitting on the bench.
