A rare, jarring awkwardness flashed across his usually detached, untouchable face. Finally, unable to process the encounter, he turned and walked away.
Seeing him leave, Quinn's fiercely tense nerves snapped. She slumped against the wall, her legs trembling weakly.
Yara exhaled a massive breath. "Oh my god, he is terrifying. No wonder..."
Mindful of the child, Yara carefully masked her words, expressing her relief vaguely.
Luna, however, kept staring at Miles's retreating back. That scary man looked so much like her brother.
Could he be... their daddy?
That night, after coaxing the twins to sleep, Quinn and Yara sat in the living room to talk.
"Quinn, do you think your soon-to-be ex-husband suspects anything?"
Yara gestured vaguely. "After all, Luna's eyes look exactly like yours."
Quinn shook her head. "No, he definitely wouldn't know. We only had that one night at the hotel. Over the last four years, nothing else has happened between us."
Besides, he and Jade were busy having their second child. It would never even cross his mind that he had kids with her.
"Thank god Caleb didn't come today. Otherwise, he absolutely would have figured it out."
Thinking of Caleb's face—a miniature replica of Miles's—Quinn felt a profound wave of relief.
There were only a few days left. Once she and Miles got their divorce papers, she would pick her mother up from the care facility and they would leave Fairmont for good.
...
Dawn broke, sweeping away the silence of the night as the morning light hit the city.
After making breakfast, Quinn helped the twins wash up.
"It's not raining today. I'm going to head to Regency Bay to pack up my things."
Yara nodded. "Okay, do you want me to come with you?"
