Judith shot a razor-sharp glare at him. "Did she know I was at Regency Bay? Is that why she intentionally stayed away?"
Macy completely agreed, her eyes narrowing suspiciously. "Jack, did you sneak off and call her?"
Jack's chest tightened slightly, but his face remained a picture of total innocence.
"I swear, Ms. Macy! I never called Ms. Avery. If you don't believe me, you can check my phone right now and see if I've made any calls to her."
He had already wiped his call history entirely. Even if the madam and the young lady wanted to investigate, they would find absolutely nothing.
Judith waved her hand dismissively. "Enough. If she isn't coming back, then she isn't coming back. She's nobody important anyway. Macy and I will just spend the night at Regency Bay."
...
Miles returned from his business trip only to find that Quinn still wasn't home. His face immediately frosted over. "Quinn hasn't been back these past two days?"
Jack hurried over and answered quietly, "Boss, Ms. Avery probably stayed away because she knew you were on a business trip. By the way, the day you left, Mrs. York and Ms. Macy came by. Ms. Avery likely stayed away to avoid a fight with them."
Hearing that, Miles's expression thawed just a fraction, but he still pulled out his phone and dialed her number.
Quinn had gone downstairs to take out the trash and left her phone behind. Luna wandered over to the coffee table.
Seeing the phone light up again and again, she climbed onto the sofa and picked it up.
Staring at the caller ID 'Scum Miles', she handed it to her brother, her big eyes blinking in curiosity.
"Caleb, how do you read these three words? Whoever it is seems like they're in a big hurry to find Mommy."
Caleb glanced at the words 'Scum Miles', his dark eyes flashing with a calculating gleam. He tapped the answer button, and Miles's voice instantly boomed through the speaker.
"Quinn, do my words mean absolutely nothing to you?"
Luna frowned. Huh, why was it the Weird Uncle's voice?
She spoke in her soft, milky voice, though it carried a distinctly annoyed tone. "Weird Uncle, are you yelling at people again?"
Miles's hand jerked. Why was he hearing Luna's sweet, soft voice?
The arrogant, icy aura radiating from him vanished instantly, his tone turning so gentle it could practically melt.
Quinn's face tightened in panic. Terrified that Miles had interrogated them, she rushed over and snatched the phone.
"Miles, don't you dare scare Luna."
Hearing her voice, the gentle warmth entirely vanished from Miles's face, his brows snapping together.
"Quinn, I didn't scare her."
"Why are you staying with Luna?"
"I came to sleep over at a friend's place. Is that a problem?"
"Didn't I tell you that you were only allowed to stay out for one day and had to move back the next? It's been three days. Where are you?"
Miles didn't use his usual brutal tone this time, likely because he knew little Luna was right there and didn't want the kid to think he was a monster.
Quinn walked out onto the balcony to continue the call. "Miles, I already told you I was moving out. You're the one who refused to listen."

I would have accepted the jerk husband ending up with the heroine if he’s only powerful, intelligent but he’s so powerless and so stupid....
Can you make Ethan be the endgame? That Miles is a total jerk....
